Art-Science Fusion (Call for submissions)
Traditionally perceived as non-overlapping domains, art and science are often seen as distinct fields. However, our project seeks to challenge this notion by visually conveying the elegance and beauty inherent in science to the general public. The ultimate goal is to unite individuals and ideas from both realms, cultivating a collaborative environment that ignites innovation and sparks creativity.
Purpose of the activity:
-
To artistically render and creatively recreate natural science results, fostering interdisciplinary interaction between artists and scientists.
-
To enhance the aesthetic appreciation of scientists and provide platforms for artists to be engaged in science.
-
The ultimate outcomes will be exhibited at online platforms or public halls, aiming to increase public interest in both art and natural sciences.
-
This project is a non-profit activity, but participants can profit from their created works. We (the organizers) do not claim any copyright from the participants.
Potential Participants:
-
Scientists/ Students in nature science major: To artistically render and creatively reinterpret natural science results, fostering interdisciplinary interaction between art and science.
-
Aspiring young designers/art creators/students in art major: The created works can be used as graduation projects or portfolio samples, and the finished products can be exhibited in art galleries or on online public platforms.
Project Process:
-
Step 1, Call for submission: (1) Submission from the natural sciences division for aesthetic appeal scientific results (we would like the authors/participants to define beauty expansively, and we encourage free innovation in submissions). (2) Submissions from the art division for representative works (such as painting, sculpture, artistic 3D modeling, design, etc.).
Examples 1.1 of submission types for (1), (artistic recreation of scientific research data):

Examples 1.2 of submission types for (1), (aesthetically appealing original scientific research data):

-
Step 2, Artistic Recreation: Participants from (1) and (2) mutually select works or styles of interest from the other group (i.e., artists choose scientific works, and scientists choose artistic works). After communication and mutual agreement, they engage in artistic recreation based on the natural science data and content from (1). The purpose of this activity is to involve both scientists and artists in the creative process, producing visually appealing photography, paintings, or sculptures.
-
Step 3, Exhibition and Awards: These works will be exhibited in art galleries or public venues accessible to the public. Exhibited pieces may be subject to public voting, and the creator with the highest votes may receive a small monetary prize.
